The first real backpacking trip I have taken since collecting all the new gear was to my favorite local hiking area the Green Mountain State Forest. Green Mountain is the second highest point in Kitsap County at 1689ft. Gold Mountain is right next door and a hundred feet or so taller but has no trails.

A State Forest run by the Department of Natural Resources is not a park but land which is logged for money by the state.  Since they are logging it all anyway they have very few restrictions on what you do in the forest.  I can therefore hike with my dogs Rosie and Sky and never once put them on a leash.  They are in heaven running through the forests!
